You won’t have to travel far from Cincinnati in order to find some unique weekend getaways!
After writing about the new Cannaley Treehouse Village in Toledo and the Covered Wagon rentals in Kentucky, I started to wonder if there were more “unique” spots within driving distance of Cincinnati.
And, WOW, did I uncover some great places for weekend getaways! From staying the night in a shipping container to vintage RV’s to tiny cabins on the river…. I looked through the options at Airbnb and found some really fun places to try.

Stay on a Working Horse Farm at McCauley Farms
Location and Approx. Distance from Cincinnati: Nicholasville, KY; 100 miles
Highlights from the Owners*: The Yearling Barn is a small thoroughbred barn with a loft apartment attached. Your only neighbors will whinny and neigh! A part of the thoroughbred farm named McCauley Farms, this is a unique opportunity to stay on an actual working horse farm.

The Loft at Metamora – great for a weekend getaway!

A Cozy Carriage House

Highlights from the Owners*: This house is the perfect get away for those traveling for work, coming into town for a game or just exploring what the area has to offer. The owner has updated the space with new appliances while keeping the history of this late 1800’s carriage house. There is off street parking if needed however the neighborhood is very walkable.

Glamping in a Tiny A-Frame
Location and Approx. Distance from Cincinnati: Athens, Ohio; 160 miles
Highlights from the Owners*: Want to go camping but don’t wanna do all the packing and setup, we have you covered! Our A-frame is a custom built cedar sided tiny 8×10′ space that is very unique. There is a 250 watt space heater so if it’s cold pack a nice sleeping bag. Its a great getaway and very memorable. Our location is impossible to beat, only 5 minutes to either Athens or The Plains.
Of note (also from the owners)*: Currently the hill to the A-Frame is not complete which requires moderate to difficult hiking; its a hillside but very manageable with good shoe and the right approach. The climb do the hill can be tricky to navigate especially at night, bring good shoes and a flash light. It’s well marked but we are still working the kinks out.
