Here we are with another installment of “365 Things to do in Cincinnati” and today I’m featuring a HOT new spot downtown – The Moerlein Lager House.
Nestled in a prime “on the Ohio River” spot, the Moerlein Lager house sits between Great American Ballpark and Paul Brown Stadium.
The views are incredible, both inside and outside. The Lager House is basically a wall of windows on the river side, overlooking my favorite bridge (The Roebling Suspension Bridge) and the Ohio River.
Right next to the Moerlein Lager House you’ll find a new outdoor park, Smale Riverfront Park. This is just one small part of the 45 acre City of Cincinnati Park which will eventually include fountains, walkways, gardens, event lawns, and playgrounds.
When you step inside the Moerlein Lager House, you’re in for a real treat. You’ll find beautiful wood rafters, lots of stacked stone, and the most incredible displays of arts detailing Cincinnati’s rich brewing history.
If you’re a beer drinker you’ve come to the right place! The Moerlein Lager House has its own working microbrewery which produces its own line of Moerlein craft brews. And when they pour you a big glass, it’s coming directly from the beer vats (is that what you call them?).
And, in case you’re wondering, the food is DELICIOUS! And I’m not the only one who thinks so as I’ve heard nothing but great things. We went for lunch and decided to have the prime rib sandwich and the beer can chicken sandwich. The roast beef came with au jus for dipping. Both came with a side of sweet potato chips and pickles. When we go for dinner I will definitely have the beer can chicken. It was amazing.
Parking is available in the new garage which runs under all of the Banks area. There’s also metered parking along 3rd Street. The parking garage was the same price as the meters when we went ($2 per hour) but be sure to check if that’s an issue for you as it will change I’m sure.
And don’t miss the nod to “Charlie Hustle” when you walk in. It’s on the floor right in front of the hostess station.
The Moerlein Lager House is located at 115 Joe Nuxhall Way

Great pics. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. I just need to find some time to get down there and experience it first hand. Since it opened has it alleviated some of the foot traffic at Holy Grail?
Thanks, Jeff. I don’t know about the Holy Grail (haven’t been there yet) but I would think so. If you’d like to avoid the crowd, I would highly recommend going on Sunday for lunch. We got there at 11am (when they opened) and had lunch. They weren’t the least bit crowded.
