Celebrate Juneteenth in Cincinnati {2023}

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, is celebrated in the United States on June 19. And Juneteenth in Cincinnati is the place to be! Enjoy celebrations, festivals, and parades all over town on the weekend surrounding the holiday.

Celebrated on June 19th, this holiday marks the day slaves in the most western part of the United States (which was Texas in 1865) were told of their freedom. Juneteenth is celebrated on June 19 as it marks the arrival of Union soldiers in Galveston who brought the news of the end of the Civil War and the Emancipation Proclamation in 1865. Juneteenth officially became a federal holiday in 2021.

Cincinnati’s 36th Annual Juneteenth Festival:

When: June 17-19, 2023, times vary
Where: Eden Park, 950 Eden Park Dr., Cincinnati, OH 45202

The three day event includes:

  • June 17 events, Celebrate the End of Slavery, include music, children’s area, history, historical re-enactors, a health screening, vendors, food, and more. ChessTime is will host the “First Annual Juneteenth Chess Tournament”, 10am-6:30pm. 12-9pm
  • June 18 events include a Father’s Day Concert. The Father’s Day concert presents a variety of inspirational and spiritual music, praise, and dancing in Seasongood Pavilion. 2-6pm
  • June 20 includes a parade downtown; details TBA.

Juneteenth at Findlay Market:

When: June 17-18, 2023; times vary
Where: Findlay Market, 1801 Race St., Cincinnati, OH 45202

  • A free panel discussion will discuss the history and importance of the holiday on Saturday, June 17.
  • Sunday’s celebration includes a Tasting Event featuring Black-owned businesses. Tickets required.

3rd Annual Hamilton Juneteenth Celebration:

When: June 17, 2023; starts at noon
Where: Marcum Park, 116 Dayton St., Hamilton, OH 45011

A day full of fun celebrating freedom, connecting and engagement!


The Juneteenth Jam:

When: Saturday, June 17, 2023; 10am – 2pm
Where: North College Hill, Galbraith and Goodman

Join in for food, music and fun – In Celebration of Freedom! They’ll have Kona Ice (free for the first 300 guests!), inflatables and a photo booth.


Juneteenth Fireworks Festival:

When: June 19, 2023; 10am-10pm
Where: 10050 Woodlawn Blvd., Cincinnati, OH 45215

This one-day event features an indoor basketball competition, outdoor 3 on 3 competitions, musical performances, 65 merchandise vendors, and 6 food vendors. It ends with a 15-20 minute fireworks display.
