Celebrate Juneteenth in Cincinnati {2022}

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, is celebrated in the United States on June 19. And Juneteenth in Cincinnati is the place to be! Enjoy celebrations, festivals, and parades all over town on the weekend surrounding the holiday.

Celebrated on June 19th, this holiday marks the day slaves in the most western part of the United States (which was Texas in 1865) were told of their freedom. Juneteenth is celebrated on June 19 as it marks the arrival of Union soldiers in Galveston who brought the news of the end of the Civil War and the Emancipation Proclamation in 1865. Juneteenth officially became a federal holiday in 2021.

Cincinnati’s 35th Annual Juneteenth Festival:

When: June 18-20, 2022, times vary
Where: Eden Park, 950 Eden Park Dr., Cincinnati, OH 45202

The three day event includes:

  • June 18 events, Celebrate the End of Slavery, include music, children’s area, history, historical re-enactors, a health screening, vendors, food, and more. 12-9pm
  • June 19 events include a Father’s Day Concert. The Father’s Day concert presents a variety of inspirational and spiritual music, praise, and dancing in Seasongood Pavilion. 2-6pm
  • June 20 includes a parade downtown with bands, clowns, dignitaries, step teams, drill teams, and more. Staging in the parking lot of the Theodore M Berry and the Lincoln Center in the West End, the parade will head East on West Court Street and right on Plum Street.  The parade will end on Richmond Street to Central Avenue. The Juneteenth Parade starts at 10am.

Juneteenth at Findlay Market:

When: June 17-19, times vary
Where: Findlay Market, 1801 Race St., Cincinnati, OH 45202

  • The celebration kicks off with a party at Jane’s on Friday, June 17, 6-9pm.
  • A free (ticketed) panel discussion will discuss the history and importance of the holiday on Saturday, June 18, 11am-12pm.
  • Sunday’s celebration includes a Tasting Event featuring Black-owned businesses. Enjoy food from 20 businesses plus entertainment. The event runs from 10am-4pm. Tickets required.

Middletown’s 2nd Annual Juneteenth Celebration:

When: June 17-19, 11am-7pm
Where: Douglass Park, Minnesota Street, Middletown, OH 45044

This celebration event includes a parade (Sat., 10-11:30am), vendors, food trucks, bouncy houses, live entertainment, activities, and cultural education opportunities. Each day is themed with Friday being “Meet and Eat”, Saturday’s theme is “Parade” and Sunday is “Soul Sunday”.


Juneteenth Weekend Celebration and Family Fun Days:

When: June 18, 2022; 2-6pm
Where: Martin Luther King Jr. Park, corner of Reading Rd. and Burton Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45229

Enjoy inflatables, yard games, face painters, balloon artists, live music, food trucks, live music, and more! For the Juneteeth Weekend Celebration there will be live music by Positive Vibe Band.

2nd Hamilton Juneteenth Celebration:

Juneteeth at Rhinegeist:

On Monday, June 20th, from 4-6pm, Director of Education from the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, Christopher Miller, will be in the taproom to discuss the history and significance of this important holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans in the United States.
