Memorial Hall

It’s Day 216 of “365 Things to do in Cincinnati” and today we are featuring Memorial Hall.

Today is Veteran’s Day so I thought this would be a great building to feature today.  Memorial Hall was built in 1908 to honor American veterans. Located right next to Music Hall, this is another fine piece of Cincinnati architecture brought to you by Samuel Hannaford and Sons, architects.

Have you ever noticed the soldiers who sit atop the building?

If you have the opportunity to go inside, be sure to take advantage of the opportunity and take your camera.  I think it’s one of the most beautiful buildings we have in Cincinnati.  The inside is a true work of art!

The 600+ seat auditorium has been restored over the years and is simply amazing.  It would be worth going to see even if there’s no one performing!  Truly.

Seriously, they just don’t make ’em like this anymore.

Marble floors, polished woodwork, iron windows…

And that’s just the area around the auditorium.  They also have two large rooms that flank the entry hall.  In addition to the same grand style, those rooms hold lots of Civil War era memorabilia.

Below you’ll see a set of framed mementos from the Civil War, including bits of a worn flag.

Memorial Hall is one of the overlooked buildings in our city.  Perhaps because it sits next to the infamous Music Hall?   Memorial Hall is certainly NOT the ugly step-sister here and should be recognized for her beauty.  Get in there to see it when you can.  Actually, I wonder if they’d give us a tour?

Memorial Hall is located at 1225 Elm Street downtown

  1. Went in here on a “ghost tour” and really really enjoyed this building–dont care a thing about the ghost part, we went for the architecture and the behind the scenes. We were not disappointed. Beautiful.
