I spent the morning wandering around Smale Riverfront Park today and all I can say is WOW! We’ve all grown accustomed to the great features that have been there for a few years – the giant swings, the splash playgrounds, the monuments and the statues. And this year (2015) marks a stellar year of new additions to the area including Carol Ann’s Carousel and the Great Adventure Playground.
Smale Riverfront Park is located along the Ohio River, between Great American Ballpark and Paul Brown Stadium. Riverfront Park is one of the many wonderful City of Cincinnati Parks.
The new playground is located at the base of the John Roebling Bridge. To take this picture (above) I was facing south and the Ohio River was in front of me (although you can’t see it in the picture).
The playground features twin racing slides (as seen in previous pic), rock climbing areas, log climbers, and a rope bridge.
There’s a pit under this rope bridge with wall-mounted ladders down either side for the bigger kids.
The ground is covered with very thick rubber (?) flooring that gives as you walk.
Smale Riverfront Park is free, as is the new playground. There’s a parking garage right underneath the park and there is limited street parking (metered) around too.
Leave some time to enjoy all of the rest of the park when you go to play. It really is a fabulous way to spend the day!
Great Adventure Playground is located in Smale Riverfront Park, 100 W. Mehring Way
