Heritage Park

Here we are for another installment of “365 Things to do in Cincinnati“.  Today I am posting about a wonderful park that I recently visited – Heritage Park.

Heritage Park is located in Colerain Township, right along the Great Miami River.  The land the park sits on is reported to be the site of Fort Coleraine, the scene of a fierce Indian attack on Colerain settlers in the 1790’s (per Heritage Park’s website).

This park has everything you’d want in a park.   There’s a mile of river frontage and they have a ramp for easy access for canoeing and kayaking.

Along the river you’ll find wooded walking trails.  While these trails are flat, they are a bit on the rough side as far as the trail itself is concerned.  The day I went there were a few trees down over the trail and it was pretty muddy (it is along the river after all). BUT don’t let that stop you. The trails provide a wonderful, private spot to walk along the river.  It’s a really nice walk.  I’m just saying – take some old shoes if it’s been wet and you want to walk the wooded trail.

The park also has a few long loops of totally flat and well paved walking trails that circle the park.

The park has a nice playground area (below), baseball fields,  and a picnic shelter.

And for you Disk Golf lovers, there’s an 18 hole disk golf course.  The landscaping throughout the park is gorgeous.

I would highly recommend that you add this to your list of things to do.  It’s a bit out of the way but it’s well worth the trip.
