Totter’s Otterville

Today is Day 103 of “365 Things to do in Cincinnati” and today we head south to visit Totter’s Otterville, an indoor-outdoor playland for children.

totter's otterville

This little gem of a kiddy wonderland is hidden in Northern Kentucky.  I will admit right up front that I almost turned around to come home as I was driving down there.  You see, it’s not immediately over the river… it’s actually about 10 minutes into Kentucky.  BUT keep reading and you’ll see that it is well worth the drive.

This place makes you wish you were a kid!  They have everything you can think of to make a child happy.  There’s a face painting station for the young make up artists (as seen above).  Right next to that is an entire room dedicated to art projects where your child can put on an apron and paint his/her day away.

For the aspiring vet they have an Animal Hospital, complete with live animals (behind the glass).

And right next to that is a great waterway section where the kids can put on “rain gear” and play in the water.  Moms and Dads can sit right there on stools to observe as well.

They have a ball pit area (top pic in the background) and a huge area with all the building blocks a child can imagine.

They even have a padded room for the wee ones….

They have room after room of indoor play areas to explore… I’ll leave some things to surprise you when you get there!

Head outside for even more fun.  They have a great maze area as well as a full sized fire truck.  You can take a ride on the trolley….

or play in the sand pit….

Or even go fishing.  And don’t worry – it’s plastic fish with magnets attached -no hooks to be found.

  • I am a stay at home mom with 2 boys, the little guy is one and his big brother just turned 3 – they keep me really busy. I am from out of town and haven’t been to Totter Otterville before so I enjoyed reading this feature. I would love to take my boys there, maybe with my neighbor and her son. Looks like they would nap good for me in the afternoon after an adventure there;o)

  • We recently attended a birthday party at Totter’s and my kids had a Blast! They especially loved the ball pit and the sand pit (eldest wants to be an archaeologist when he grows up!) but I’d love a chance to introduce them to the rest of the wonderful play areas! We only got to about one third of the wonderful activities, there’s so much to do!

This is truly a wonderful place to take the little ones…I just became a fan of your site and its wonderful, you have some great ideas on here. I look forward to reading what the daily thing to do is. Keep up the great work!!!

  • I am not a native to the area, but have lived here for 10 years. I am still learning about places to go in Northern Kentucky, especially where I can take my grandchildren that won’t cost me a fortune. I am a teacher, so we make lots of day trips in the summer. I honestly didn’t know this placed even existed any longer. I thought it had closed with Johnny’s Toys! Thank you for bringing it to my attention!

  • I have a very curious and energetic 18 month old girl at home with another little girl due in September. I’d love to bring my oldest here for a special “Mommy and Me Day” after her little sister arrives!

  • This is my kids favorite place ever to go! It’s nice to go somewhere where my 6 year olds and 18 month old can all have a great time.

  • Otters are so cool – love them!

hope it doesn’t get any hotter for the otter in the trotter, …maybe I’ll make my legs squatter to read Harry Potter to the Otter? Wonder if I can be a spotter of an otter on a teeter-totter?

My neighbors have six wonderful polite young children and I’d love to be able to take them to see the otters

  • This place is wonderful! I can’t recommend them enough for birthday parties. Another wonderful note is the children cannot get outside alone. The outside is fenced in and the inside exit is monitored by employees.

  • I would love to win this prize because I am always looking for new and exciting things to take the kids to. This looks like a great place to go on a rainy day.

  • i would love to take my two year old son, camden. we dont live in the best neighborhood so he isn’t able to befriend many neighbors. his only interaction with children his age is when we visit a friend we have that has a three year old of their own. i love places like totter’s where a kid doesnt have to know anyone, or fit in to play with a group of kids, because thats what it is all about. i have never been to totters but i would love to go (i am a big kid too ) and take his little three year old buddy, so they could play paint and imagine all day, and hopefully make some connections with children his age. great idea 365- i wouldnt even have known this place existed if it weren’t for you, thanks alot! i love that you do everything imaginable….

It would be nice to take my friend and her little girl so she could help me with my daughter and I could feet like she can have fun without being stuck indoors with me all day.

  • I am so excited to see another place to explore with my 4 year old son. Our family really tries to explore new and interesting adventures and activities with our children. We regularly go to the zoo, Childrens Museum, Kings Island, we travel to other Childrens Museums (Louisville, Bloomington IN, Indianapolis, Chicago). We love to watch our children express themselves and witness the expression and amazement of new ideas and discoveries. This place sounds like something that would fulfill a memorable day for our family. Thank you so much for your creativity with this site. I so enjoy reading and visiting some of the places you suggest.

  • I really really want to take my almost 2 year old there – it looks like a great place to go on a rainy day or in the fall when it gets cooler! • Hi! I want to win the tickets for my daughters first birthday celebration! We just moved away from NKY a month ago and we are coming back next month to celebrate her birthday with family and friends…. We won’t get the opportunity to go very often since we live in Indianapolis now, so I think it would be a great experience to go for her first birthday with a few of her little friends!!

  • I love Otterville!!! I forgot all about it being open still since Johnny’s
Toys has closed. We have gone a few times with my nephew who has Autism, it is such a great learning sensation for him. All of the puzzles and different things to touch really kept him interested in all that was going on. We haven’t been back in so long and I would really like to take my daughter along with her cousins to have a fun filled day. Plus with the age group of all my nieces, nephews, and children it’s much more worthwhile for us to go to a place like Otterville rather than a Chuckee Cheese. Hope ya pick me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I would love these passes. My 6 year old son is very high energy and loves the Children’s museum at Museum Center, especially the water play area. He’s never been to Totter’s Otterville but I’m sure he would love it! • My children LOVE Totter Otterville! They are are 2.5 and 1 and they have a blast! I had my sons first birthday party there and it could not have been more perfect. All the kiddos had a blast and their staff was amazing. My sister is coming to visit from Kansas with her 4 beautiful girls and this would make a great day out for all the little ones. I’ve heard of this place through places like the Neport Aquarium, but though it was further into to KY. Glad to know its not! :O)

  • I would like to win this for a family with eight children that I know. Both Mom and Dad are out of work, and the little ones would love this adventure. They don’t even have the funds to cover meals and rent, so this would be a wonderful experience for the kids.

  • I went here with my sister-in-law and our little ones and I can say that this place is wonderful. Had something for every age to do and it was inexpensive! Hope we can go again soon with this free tickets!!!! =)

  • We love Totter’s Otterville- and I delayed then forgot to buy the Groupon myself. So you could redeem me in my children’s eyes! They, and I, would be forever grateful!

  • Between work and school it’s hard for me to find stuff for my kids to do that’s new and exciting. This looks and sounds charming from your description! I bet my two and three year olds would absolutely adore it! Hope we get lucky and win the certificate. Thanks for the great info!
