FRIDAY, APRIL 19:

Botany and Brews: Fibonacci Fridays, a 21 and up event, is happening at the Krohn Conservatory, 6-8pm. The event will include a 10 minute presentation and discussion about the current show as well as the beer and wine that has been inspired by it. After the talk, guests can mingle and enjoy the evening sipping on the selections. Online registration is required and your price includes one drink ticket (additional can be purchased).

This is the last weekend to see The Krohn Conservatory’s The Shape of Nature Featuring Oscillation. Their spring show will close on Sunday.

SATURDAY, APRIL 20:

Enjoy free admission at the Cincinnati Nature Center this weekend (April 20-22, 2024) in celebration of Earth Day.

Great Parks hosts Protect Your Wilds, an Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, 9am – 3pm. They’ll have a large scale volunteer Winton Lake Cleanup effort going on from 9am to noon (register online to volunteer). The Earth Day Celebration starts at 11am and features booths from environmental groups, local vendors selling sustainable or homemade products, food trucks, games, live entertainement, and more!

Earth Day Celebration at Smale Park will be happening on Saturday, noon-5pm (with a few special events starting at 11am, see below). A Park Naturalist will be leading nature education demonstrations. Other community involvement organizations such as Keep Cincinnati Beautiful, Queen City Clay, and the park’s International Friendship Park Advisory Council group, will display international environmental policies, initiatives, and sister city projects. The event will begin at 11 a.m. with a yoga class hosted by Embra Studio, as well as an Earth Day Volksmarch Walk at 11am. This event will be held at Schmidlapp Event Lawn (next to Moerlein Lager House).

The Spring City Flea Vintage Market will be at Factory 52, 10am-4pm. Shop over 60 vendors selling vintage clothing, decor, and furniture. Grab lunch or a drink at The Gatherall before or after shopping!

It’s opening day at Kings Island!

Cincy Hikes will be continuing with their “Seven Hills of Cincinnati” series with a hike in Mt. Healthy (starts at 10:30am). Join in for a hike and learn some history about Mt. Healthy as you stroll through Heritage Park’s paved trail. The goal will be about 2.5 miles but you can do more or less. Optional social will be at Mt Healthy Dairy Bar after the hike (cash only).

Enjoy a Spring Fest at Burnet Woods on Saturday, 10am-2pm. Learn how Parks and Preserves provide vital habitat for local wildlife and meet the Eastern Box Turtle and American Toad. Spring Fest activities sponsored by UC Students for Burnet Woods.

Head to Court Street Plaza (downtown) for a Flower Market on Saturday, 10am-3pm. The market will be a colorful celebration of spring featuring a range of vendors with flowers, plants, yard art, & plant accessories along Court Street Plaza’s wide, pedestrian-friendly walkways.

This is the last weekend to see The Krohn Conservatory’s The Shape of Nature Featuring Oscillation. Their spring show will close on Sunday.

Brink Brewing is having a Pie Baking Contest on Saturday! You can enter your own homemade pies or you, as a pie-loving-civilian, can judge for the People’s Choice Award from 12-2:30pm.

SUNDAY, APRIL 21:

History in Bloom will be at Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum, 12-4pm. Watch as they turn back time with horse drawn carriage rides through the arboretum on a beautiful Spring Sunday.  The rides begin at noon and run continuously until 3:30pm.  Along the route see some of Spring Grove’s Champion trees, beautiful blossoms, lush green foliage, art, architecture and wildlife.  You will even meet some of their more notable ‘residents.’ Walking tours will be led by their knowledgeable docents at 12:00, 1:30, and 3:00. No registration or tickets required.

Gorman Heritage Farm will hold a Bed Preparation and Soil Health Workshop on Sunday, 12:30-4:30pm. Learn to “work the soil” using backyard -friendly, low-till methods for healthy structure, deep fertility & living soil for your garden. Jason Kamp, the farm’s Garden Educator,will share his knowledge of all things soil in an indoor talk, will provide a guided tour of the farm’s own garden production spaces, and will lead a hands-on soil work & bed preparation demonstration out in the market garden. Great for both beginner and experienced gardeners. Registration required.

It’s the season opener for the Burlington Antique Show, happening April 21 at the Boone County Fairgrounds (Burlington, KY). Show hours are 7am-3pm (must pay for an Early Bird Ticket to get 7-8am entry). Admission is $5 from 8am to 3pm and parking is free.

Enjoy free admission at the Cincinnati Nature Center this weekend (April 20-22, 2024) in celebration of Earth Day.

Take an Earth Day Sunrise Hike at the Cincinnati Nature Center, 6-7:30am. Enjoy spotting wildlife and wildflowers in several different habitats around the Nature Center on this moderately paced hike. You’ll end the hike with coffee and a treat. Participants should meet at the map kiosk in front of the Rowe Visitor Center at our Rowe Woods location. Registration required and fee charged for the hike.

There’s an Eagle Nest Watch happening at Winton Woods, 7-9am. This free drop-in event will allow you to (hopefully) observe the bald eagle pair as they nest for a second year at Winton Lake. Interpreters will be available to answer questions as well as give the history of the current breeding pair of eagles. Parking will be available at the disc golf course and guests can walk down to the Adventure Outpost boat launch for the best viewing opportunities. Findlay Market hosts a Findlay Kitchen Tasting Event on Sunday, 10am-4pm. You can sample up to 18 different businesses’ cuisines, attend a panel discussion featuring prominent Black Cincinnati chefs and artists, and wind down the day with live music in the afternoon. They are also hosting walk-in group tours at the top of the hour from (11am-2pm) on Sunday. See where Members produce their products and host cooking classes, and learn all about the history and day-to-day operations of Findlay Kitchen. Tickets required for sampling food.

Taft Museum of Art will be having a Free Family Funday on Sunday, 10a-4pm. The theme is “Hide and Seek Animals”. Join book author (and Taft Assistant Curator) Angela Fuller as she reads her new children’s book, Hide-and-Seek Animals at the Taft Museum of Art. Plus, introduce your family to art from around the world with colorful artworks from the museum’s collection, a petting zoo, and more! 

Take a free Public Tour of the Cincinnati Art Museum, offered on Saturdays and Sundays at 2pm. No need to register – meet in the lobby.

Union Terminal Rotunda Tours are offered by Heritage Program docents at Cincinnati Museum Center on Fridays – Sundays. During a 45-minute tour of the 1933 train station, docents explain the architecture, construction and art of one of the finest examples of the Art Deco style. Hear details about the world-famous mosaic murals. These limited capacity public tours are first come, first served and will depend on availability. Tours are free; there is a charge to park.

Rookwood Pottery offers Behind the Scenes Tours of Rookwood on most Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets required. Double check with them about their tour times this weekend. They have another event going on that’s sold out and the times may be the same.

Take a tour with Cincinnati Food Tours and savor some local food and culture. Times vary, but tasting tours are offered weekly at Findlay Market and in other delicious neighborhoods. Information and reservations at www.cincinnatifoodtours.com

Cincinnati Art Museum: Accessible Expressions Ohio, opened Friday, March 29
One of the most accessible and diverse art presentations ever displayed at the museum, Accessible Expressions Ohio is a juried statewide art exhibition by Ohio artists, of all ages, with disabilities.

Cincinnati Art Museum: Whitfield Lovell: Passages, now thru May 26 (tickets required)
Whitfield Lovell: Passages urges viewers to contemplate the ordinary lives and extraordinary journeys of the African American experience, while raising universal questions about identity, memory, and America’s collective heritage. More than 80 evocative multisensory installations, conté crayon drawings, and assemblages comprise this most comprehensive exhibition of the artist’s work to date.
