One of my favorite Cincinnati restaurants just opened a new location – Taste of Belgium Bistro is now at The Banks!
The newest Taste of Belgium Bistro officially opens on Friday, October 28, 2016. We recently had the opportunity to get a peek inside the new eatery and enjoy some food from their new menu.
This location is the first to offer their new menu. Upon realizing there was a NEW menu, I immediately scanned it to be sure my favorites were still there. Rest assured, Waffle & Chicken (first on my list) is still first on their list. Other old favorites on the new dinner menu include Stoemp (smashed potatoes with add ins “of the day”), frites, Brussells sprouts (a MUST have), and mussels.
The dinner menu offers lots of new items including their “Beltucky Hot Brown” (shown above). Trust me when I tell you you need to have this in your life. Today. It’s an individual cast iron skillet with one of their signature waffles on the bottom, pulled turkey, tomatoes, candied bacon, and topped off with Cheddar Mornay. That is comfort food at its best right there!
The salads were surprising to me… in that I hardly EVER order a salad as my main entree. I certainly would here though. My favorite was the “Pea Salad” (which really needs a new name because I hate peas but love this salad). The Harvest Salad (seasonal) was a great choice as well with a Spring Mix topped with sweet potatoes, apples, dried cherries, and tossed with a pomegranate molasses vinaigrette. They seriously should bottle that dressing. So good!
We tried a number of things from the appetizer menu too, including Fried Avocados (above). Chunks of avocado are briefly marinated in lemon juice before they’re breaded in bacon dust (yes, bacon DUST), Parmesan, bread crumbs, and then deep fried. It was fun to try them… dipping them in the “beer-naise” sauce on the side.
Located on the ground floor of the new GE building, Taste of Belgium Bistro has seating options that are great for a few people or a big party. The section you see above has booth space as well as table space and can be sectioned off for a private party. The back wall is a long set of tables and banquette seating.
And look at the view!
They have a great “U” shaped bar with 50+ beers ON TAP. The screens above the tap are digital beer menus. They do, of course, also have wine and cocktails. And their bottled beer selection is likely to surprise you with all kinds of Belgian brews.
Just in case you’d like to take some of your favorite beer home… may I introduce you to the “crowler”? It starts off as an open top 32oz. can (half of a standard growler). They fill it with the beer of your choice and then put a top on it. The top seals the can and you “pop the top” at home.
Or perhaps you’d prefer a little espresso with dessert?
Did someone say desserts? Yes, they’re fantastic too!
As you can probably tell, Taste of Belgium has been and continues to be one of my favorite restaurants. From start to finish, we always enjoy our meal. It’s one of the few places where I can honestly say I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve had from their menu.
