The Dancing Princesses at Ensemble Theatre

Still looking for the perfect holiday gift? Give the best gift of all – an experience the whole family can enjoy. Get tickets to see The Dancing Princesses at the Ensemble Theatre downtown in Over the Rhine. You will not regret it. It’s become an annual tradition for us to see a show during the holiday season. And it’s always one of our most memorable performances of the year.

New this year is the Ensemble Theatre’s renovation. If you have been there in the past, you must go see the new updates. The lobby itself is absolutely gorgeous and spacious. No more claustrophobia as you enter the theater or try to grab a snack at intermission. The lobby expanded and seems to be double the street frontage now. There is a large bar and many seating areas. The new lobby will definitely become a destination before and after the show for many. During our visit, we grabbed cocktails at the bar and hot chocolates for the kids and sat comfortably at a table enjoying our time together before the show. Other improvements include more restrooms and easier accessibility to the theater seating from multiple levels.

Ensemble Theatre Renovations

My favorite thing about the Ensemble in general is the feeling you get that you are right in the middle of the show. It is a steep and smaller theater so all of the seats have an unblocked view. This makes it great for my kids.

I also love the casting. Year after year, many cast members can be recognized yet they play their new roles so perfectly. My girls loved the five princess sisters and Aunt Zilda the most. And the singing! It’s amazing. This production was also filled with lots and lots of dancing of course. The choreography and introduction of dance in other cultures was very entertaining.

The Ensemble Theatre describes it the best: “The tango, the cha cha, and the waltz, oh my! It’s time to break out those dancing shoes for Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati’s world premiere, family-friendly musical The Dancing Princesses, by local playwright Joseph McDonough with music and lyrics by David Kisor. This whimsical production brings to life a royal mystery as five diverse sisters dance their way through the new incarnation of the classic, enchanting story. With hot chocolate, dance numbers, and shenanigans aplenty, The Dancing Princesses is holiday fun for the entire family!”

  1. Hello! I was urged to find tickets after reading your great article, but I only see tickets at $61 each for adults through the theatre website.. Is there somewhere I can find the $35 tickets you have listed? Thank you!

    • Hi Christine, I reached out to the Ensemble to get the answer for you. Here’s what they said: “Unfortunately that is a ticket price that would have applied to preview or earlier performances and is no longer available since we are now into our third week of performances. We do offer 1/2 price rush tickets on all remaining seats that are unsold 2 hours prior to each curtain time, and those may be purchased over the phone so that patrons don’t have to come all the way down and not get a seat if we are sold out for that show. Your reader is always welcome to contact our box office with any other questions and one of our associates can assist.”
