Fall Events at the Great Parks of Hamilton County

When fall hits, my first thought is how to get in the maximum amount of “park time”. I’m not a fan of the super hot weather we’ve had this year and I have to say I am REALLY ready to get out now that it’s cooling off. With that in mind, I’ve compiled a list of 2018 fall events from the Great Parks of Hamilton County. Look for me at these as I’m sure I will partake in them all over the next few months! Black Walnut Weekend

Dates: October 13 & 14 Hours: noon – 4pm Location: Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve, 3455 Poole Road, Colerain Township. Admission? no admission, some activites require a small fee Advance Registration Required? no

Celebrate the nuttiest harvest in the Midwest during Black Walnut Weekend! Join the fun at Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve on Saturday, October 13 and Sunday, October 14 from noon–4 pm. each day.  Take a “crack” at opening walnuts, bring an article of cloth to dye in a walnut bath, taste samples of black walnut treats and more! Local band Jake Speed & The Freddies will be jamming out from 12:30–3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

 
Parky's Farm Halloween Nights

Halloween Nights at Parky’s Farm

Dates: Thursday – Sunday, October 11-28 Hours: 5:30-9:30pm Location: Winton Woods | Parky’s Farm, 10073 Daly Rd. Cincinnati, OH 45231 Admission? preorder tickets online: $7/person; Tickets at gate: $8/person; Free/children 23 months and under) Advance Registration Required? no, but you can buy tickets online Bring your little animal to Parky’s Farm for a not-a-bit-scary nighttime Halloween party. They’re celebrating all the not-so-spooky aspects about this time of year. Come to the farm during select nights in October for a ghoulishly delightful time! This crazy-fun farm party will include: hay wagon rides, inflatable obstacle course, “creepy” campfire, bounce house, hardly-haunted castle, magic & juggling shows, pony rides, and more!

  • Sun 10/21 : My Great Park in Pictures Photo Walk, 1-2pm;  Malinda Hartong will share her techniques to capture the best pictures with either your smartphone or SLR camera. No experience necessary. Embshoff Woods/Parcours Trail (Free)
  • Sun 10/21: Great Parks Nature Photography Club Meeting, 3-5pm; Come be part of a community that loves nature photography. Club meetings are an opportunity to learn and be challenged, share photos and enjoy nature. All levels of experience welcome. Embshoff Woods/Whistling Woods Shelter (Free)
  • Sun 11/11: My Great Park in Pictures Photo Walk, 10-11am; Join in as Malinda Hartong shares photography tips for both your smart phone and SLR camera along the trail. Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve/Ellenwood Nature Barn (Free)

Dates: numerous dates in October and November Hours: varies Location: Winton Woods Adventure Outpost, 10248 McKelvey Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45231 | 513-521-2345 Admission? varies, all equipment provided Advance Registration Required? yes, register at least 3 days in advance Aiming for a new way to enjoy the great outdoors? Try out your skills with a little target practice! An archery instructor will guide you through the basics of shooting a compound bow while explaining the archery steps to success. All equipment is provided. Classes offered include: Outdoor Archery for adults only, Outdoor Archery for ages 8 and up, Women in the Outdoors: Outdoor Archery, Archery Distance Shooting, Archery Accuracy and Games, and Outdoor Archery II.
