The Kentucky Castle rooftop will transform into a murder mystery dinner theatre… just as the sun sets! Enjoy a great date night with a plated dinner on the rooftop or in the Castle Greenhouse (depending on the date) as a murder mystery dinner theatre performance takes place.
Murder Mystery Dinners in the Greenhouse start on November 4, 2020. Additional open dates include Nov. 11 and 18, and December 2, 9, and 16.
Update: Sadly, the dates for the Murder Mystery Dinners on the Rooftop are currently all sold out.
What is The Kentucky Castle?
The Kentucky Castle is a hotel, restaurant, and spa located in Versailles, Kentucky (near Lexington). They offer overnight accommodations in one of their tower chalets, suites, The Loft, or in a Farm View Cabin. And new this year – the Glamping Tent!
Want to just visit for the day? They offer tours and they also take reservations for their restaurant.
What precautions are they taking for Murder Mystery Dinners in 2020?
🏰 Seating will be at “socially distanced, private tables”. When you make your reservations you will choose a table size (based on the number in your group).
🏰 They ask that all guests purchase tickets as a group within their own households.
🏰 They will require temperature checks prior to entry.
🏰 Guests will be asked to wear masks at all times when not seated.
🏰 Staff will wear masks.
More details about the event…
Enjoy a delicious dinner in the Greenhouse at The Kentucky Castle. But don’t get too comfy, because while you eat, the Murder Mystery Dinner Theater team, “Murder & Merriment”, will have you saying “whodunnit?!”
The Mystery? Speak Easy of Murder
The storyline: It’s 1928, and Mobster and bootlegger, Danny “Lucky” Campisano hosts the Grand Opening of his new Speak Easy for friends and associates. He has ordered a special case of illegal gin just for the occasion. Unfortunately, the gin is poisoned and someone wants to spoil the party!
The Menu:
- Appetizer Chicken and Waffles
- First Course Seasonal Salad
- Main Course Roasted pork loin with honey roasted carrots, spicy honey sauce, served on a bed of arugula
- Dessert Castle-made S’mores cookie sandwich
Be aware that the fine details on the ticket ordering page do say “menu subject to change”.
The restaurant and the hotel:
The Kentucky Castle has its own restaurant on site – Castle Farms. 90% of the produce served to guests is grown right there on the farm. In fact, the castle’s working farm grows as much of the food as possible right there on site. Their gardens include vegetable gardens, a mushroom farm, a truffle orchard, and lavender fields (watch for the lavender in front of the castle walls). They also have animals on the farm, everything from goats to horses to bees!
The castle does have a hotel – making it a GREAT spot for a weekend getaway!
The Kentucky Castle is approximately 90 miles from downtown Cincinnati. It is close to both Lexington and Frankfort. The Kentucky Capitol is located in Frankfort and well worth a visit!
Can’t make it for their Murder Mystery events?
They also offer fitness classes on the roof, salsa lessons, pairing dinners, KY Bourbon classes, live music, and more.
The Kentucky Castle is located at 230 Pisgah Pike, Versailles, Kentucky 40383

What if we only have a party of two?
These dates are sold out and a mask is required. Why they still advertise when its sold out os beyond me. Crap i say.
Hi Brian, When this article was written they had lots of openings. This is not an advertisement from The Kentucky Castle; it’s just something I chose to write about because I thought it would make for a great night out. They do have lots of other events that are still open. And I think you’ll find that a mask is going to be required at lots of places this summer.
I’m not sure about that, Christel. You should direct your question to The Kentucky Castle. Their site is here: https://www.thekentuckycastle.com/
It looks super cool am very interested I’m wondering what types of restaurants do they have inside and do you have to reserve or bad
Hi Nicola, I’m not sure. Your best bet would be to reach out to the Kentucky Castle directly. Here’s their site: https://www.thekentuckycastle.com/

How much $$$? Per person
How do you dress for the event? Casual or formal?
I looked for that info online, Sherry, and couldn’t find anything more than a statement that they have no dress code. I did read through some reviews on TripAdvisor and they said business casual.
Hi Zackery, The pricing differs. If you click the link for the event website, you’ll find all the pricing there.
Please put me on your e-mail listing
Is it possible you will have more dates open? All are sold out.
Keep checking back, Pam. They often add new dates as current events sell out.

Are the dates for Aug. 12 & 13 sold out?
Hi Nikki, It does appear that the August 12 date is sold out. I don’t think they’re offering the event on August 13. If you’d like to call The Kentucky Castle to inquire about that date, their number is (859) 256-0322.

I would love to hear a recent review-later than the January 2020 review that I read, that was not good. I will also call to see if there are menu accommodations for those who do not eat Pork (for the main entree). I have tickets for the show next Wednesday September 30th. I’ll be sure to leave a review.
