5 Ways to Amp Up for WICKED

Who’s ready for theater season?! I know I am! Broadway in Cincinnati (our sponsor) kicks off its 2017-18 season with Wicked (starting Sept. 13) and we are here to help you out with some pre-show excitement!

I’ve seen the show twice and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to see it again (truth!). It is definitely one of my favorites.

As the show dates approach, I thought it would be fun to brainstorm some ideas for a little theater “pre-gaming”. Want to join me and get amped up for Wicked?!

    1. Listen to the Wicked soundtrack.

I didn’t realize that listening to the soundtrack BEFORE a show was even “a thing” until I got hooked on Broadway shows. It’s one of my favorite ways to get ready for the big night. Now I listen to the soundtrack for at least a few weeks before the show. I’ve been wearing the Wicked Soundtrack OUT on Amazon Prime Music!  You could say it’s currently very “popular” in my house :).

You can listen to the Wicked soundtrack via your favorite streaming service. You can find it on Spotify, Pandora, ITunes, and many others. And you can, of course, buy the soundtrack on CD. Tip: be sure to say/search “soundtrack for Wicked” (Alexa can be stubborn!).

    2. Dress the Part!

There are some VERY creative people out there and they help the fashion-challenged people like me out quite a bit! I know I will be (subtly) sporting a few looks from our “Broadway Inspired Fashion” Pinterest board this year. Check out our Pinterest Board for some Wicked inspired ensembles and makeup tips – Elphaba, Glinda, and other other characters represented! Thank you, Pinterest. I heart you.

    3. Brush up on the Back Story

Make some popcorn and curl up on the couch for movie night featuring The Wizard of Oz. You see, Wicked is the backstory of what happened BEFORE Dorothy landed in Oz. Wicked highlights the “untold stories of Oz’s most famous characters: the Wicked Witch of the West and her unlikely friend, Glinda the Good.” So brush up on those characters and get ready for the performance!

    4. Read the Book!

Did you know that Wicked started out as a book? Yep, read the story that started it all – Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire.

    5. Get a Sneak Peek at the Stage

I absolutely love live theater. From the lush seats to the crowds to the backdrops and the elaborate staging… there really is no better way to be transported into another world. For me, that’s the beauty of theater – it’s two hours (or so) of being lost in a story.

And when it comes to a great stage AND story, Wicked does not disappoint! I mean, seriously, get a load of this stage! How can you NOT want to see what lies behind the curtain?!

I hope you’ll try out a few of my favorite ways to get ready for Wicked! Do you have a favorite way to get ready for a show? Share YOUR ideas with us in the comments!
