Day 125 – Avril’s Marketplace

Today is our Day 125 of “365 Things to do in Cincinnati” and today we are downtown for lunch at Avril’s Marketplace.

I met my husband for lunch downtown and we went to Avril’s Marketplace.  Right next door to the infamous Avril’s butcher shop, this is a great place to go for a nice sandwich or salad.  They offer a variety of cold cut type sandwiches as well as cold salads.

I had a half chicken salad sandwich with a side salad.  They had many cold salads to choose from but the broccoli salad was calling my name.  They even have two different kinds of chicken salad.  I had the dill chicken sald and it was very, very good.  I really liked the texture of the chicken – it seemed to be finely chopped (you can probably see what I mean in the picture above).  I loved that I could get a half sandwich with a salad too.  It was the perfect amount of food for lunch.

Now who wouldn’t like to eat that sandwich?!  My husband had their brisket sandwich.  I had to try it and it was every bit as good as it looks.  I would highly recommend it to you meat lovers out there.

If you’re looking for a grilled sausage, Avril’s has a cart outdoors where they grill up some great lunchtime treats.

Avril’s Marketplace also sells a variety of fresh produce and a lot of grocery type items.  I can see where this would be a handy place to shop in a pinch if you live downtown.  I will warn you that the grocery prices were high but I guess you’d expect that for a convenient store type market.

Avril’s does have a number of seats inside at tables and at the window.  They also have a number of tables outside on the sidewalk area.

Avril’s Marketplace is located at 37 East Court Street downtown.

  • Avril’s grill has probably one of the best cheeseburgers for its price! For $4, it’s pretty big and I think it tastes better than Cafe De Wheels’ burger and is no where near as greasy. Great place to go for lunch downtown. Only downside is the grill is cash only.

  • Avril’s has the best Italian sub known to mankind. Get it hot with mayo and italian dressing. I am literally italian sub jaded; I can’t get it anywhere else. I drive about 30 minutes once a week to indulge. Dedication.

  • Just as an FYI… The grill is cash only, but if you have no cash they will let you pay inside with your credit card. Just tell them that’s what you plan to do, and then show them the receipt when you com back out! (or there is an ATM five feet away)
