It’s Day 68 of 365 Things to do in Cincinnati and today we went downtown to visit the Cooking with Caitlin team and enjoy the Strauss and Troy Market on Fountain Square.
Open every Tuesday (11am-2pm) until September 28, the outdoor market is a great way to spend your early afternoon. The market consists of vendors set up all along the periphery of the fountain. You’ll find of all kinds of vendors, from fresh produce to baked goods, from barbecue to burgers – they have it all.
We specifically went to visit the Cooking with Caitlin booth. I had the pleasure of hearing the Cooking with Caitlin team speak back in February and they mentioned this Fountain Square event, so I knew I had to get out to visit them at their booth.
Caitlin is in the chef’s coat in the picture above. She’s the cutest thing ever and such a little dynamo! She’s a trained chef, a mom and a business woman – all rolled into one. Caitlin does the cooking while sister Kelly and friend Molly support the business with marketing, media relations, shopping, etc., etc. Together they make up one dynamic crew!
The Cooking with Caitlin team makes different burgers to grill up each week at the Strauss and Troy Market. Today they were serving ricotta stuffed burgers with a balsamic reduction and their yummy “Butter Burgers”. I went for the ricotta burger as it was different and I liked the idea of the balsamic reduction. Served on a yummy buttery roll with a side of refreshing watermelon, this was the perfect thing to enjoy while sitting beside the fountain.
True champions for the city of Cincinnati AND learning to cook at home, the Cooking with Caitlin crew does a number of events within the Cincinnati area as well as online.
First and foremost, there’s the Cooking with Caitlin website – full of recipes and cooking tips. They even have a number of free “how to” videos on their site such as this one on how to make garlic mashed potatoes…
You can hear them on 55 WKRC every Sunday (3pm-4pm) on their “What’s Hot” radio program. They start each show with a list of the “hot” events and good news happening within Greater Cincinnati, the worldwide web, and the world. They end each show with a smattering of Caitlin’s tips and tricks on everyday food. And sandwiched between that beginning and ever-so tasty end, is a spirited conversation with a special guest. (paraphrased from the Cooking with Caitlin site).
They do a “Third Thursday” event at the McAlpin (downtown), which is a fun evening out full of good food and friends.
And they do “Foodies Night In” every Monday on Twitter. Each Monday (4pm – 6pm) there’s a new cooking related theme. Foodies from all over the country get together to “Tweet” about food. For the Twitterers in the crowd – look for hashtag #fni.
Whether you’re a foodie or someone who wants to learn to cook, be sure to check them out!
